Answer:
  • If you filed a Form 1040, the Filing Status is shown on Page 1, Boxes 1 through 5.
  • If you filed a Form 1040A, the Filing Status is shown on Page 1, Boxes 1 through 5.
  • If you filed a Form 1040EZ, the Filing Status is either Single or Married Filing a Joint Return.

Where do I get the Refund Amount?

  • If you filed a Form 1040, the Refund Amount is shown on Line 76a.
  • If you filed a Form 1040A, the Refund Amount is shown on Line 48a.
  • If you filed a Form 1040EZ, the Refund Amount is shown on Line 13a.

I filed a joint tax return, which Social Security Number do I use to get my refund status?

Either Social Security Number can be used.


Availability of “Where’s My Refund?

Where’s My Refund? is available almost all of the time. However, our system is not available every Monday from 12:00 am (Midnight) to 3:00 am Eastern Time.Our Change of Address and Refund Trace features are not available during the following times (Eastern Time):

Sunday 12:00 am (Midnight) to 7:00 pm
Monday 12:00 am (Midnight) to 6:00 am
Tuesday 3:30 am to 6:00 am
Wednesday 3:30 am to 6:00 am
Thursday 3:30 am to 6:00 am
Friday 3:30 am to 6:00 am
Saturday 3:30 am to 6:00 am
and 9:00 pm to 12:00 am (Midnight)

Also, occasionally our system may be unavailable on Sundays between 1:00 am and 7:00 am Eastern Time


What information is available on “Where’s My Refund?”

Answer:

The individual tax return you filed for a refund this year (or the last six months of last year) can be accessed through “Where’s My Refund?”. You can check on the status of your refund 24 hours after you e-file. If you filed a paper return, please allow 4 weeks before checking on the status.

Information regarding refunds for Form 1040X, Amended U.S. Individual Income Tax Return is not available. Amended/corrected returns are processed as quickly as possible. However, it may take 8 to 12 weeks or longer to process the return. If 12 weeks have elapsed and you have not received your refund, call (800) 829-1040.
